First Watch is preparing to open in the former Red Robin building at 1025 Vann Drive in The Columns shopping area, with the daytime dining chain confirming the Jackson plans and specializing in breakfast, brunch, and lunch service typically running from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. If you have been driving past that dark storefront wondering when someone would take it, the answer is now, and the timing is telling. A brunch-only concept works in a market with enough weekday office traffic and weekend family volume to fill the seats before mid-afternoon. That is a specific bet on this corridor.
The most architecturally interesting opening of the year isn't on Vann Drive at all. The two openings that will matter most to residents looking for variety are on the Bypass and in South Jackson. Aamrai Indian Kitchen & Bar is preparing to open at 1938 Highway 45 Bypass, promising authentic Indian flavors and a whole new dining experience with a focus on traditional dishes in a modern setting. Jackson's dining scene already includes Sizzler Cuisine of India, and commenters had been asking for more variety. A second full-service Indian kitchen in town is not a small addition. South Jackson gets its own diversification.
